Internships

The heart and soul of New Beginnings' counseling and educational services is the dedicated group of intern counselors who are completing their training before becoming licensed as clinical psychologists or marriage/family therapists. These doctoral and graduate level professionals provide individual, group, couples and family counseling to the diverse group of people who make use of our services. The interns are trained and guided by experienced clinical supervisors. Supervisors meet weekly with the intern staff members. They provide technical assistance, advanced training, and feedback to the counselors for whom they are responsible. Additionally, each intern attends training sessions twice a month, where specialized issues are presented. The Center is also supported by a large group of community volunteers who staff the office and oversee the clinic's activities.

New beginnings provides a well-respected, rigorous training program to its trainees and inters. Our training is geared toward helping our staff prepare for practice as licensed professionals. All of the major graduate schools in the southern California area have placed their students with us including Antioch, Pacifica Graduate Institute, Santa Barbara Graduate Institute, the University of Santa Monica and California State University-Channel Islands.

The center appreciates the hard work of its interns and does not have a monthly training fee. The only charge is a one-time administrative fee of $150.
